The Oil Sands Discovery Centre is offering an exciting range of science-themed camps this summer for students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. From doing exciting experiments to gaining new science skills, these camps have something for everyone.
This year, we are running three week-long camps and three one-day camps on select Saturdays throughout the summer. Please see camp descriptions for times and prices. Drop-off and pick-up are up to 30 minutes before and after the times listed.
2025 Camp Descriptions
Kindergarten to Grade 1
These camps run for a half day and let children going into Kindergarten and Grade 1 make some amazing discoveries. These camps run from 9:30 am to 12 pm.
Stealthy Science
Discover the wonderful ways that animals stay hidden and the techniques that can help find them! Learn about camouflage, how to use your ears instead of your eyes to find things, and how humans have copied animal stealth methods. Find the fun as you discover the science behind staying unseen!

- Cost: $18 per participant
Fossil Pals
How on Earth do we find fossils buried IN the earth? Become an OSDC Fossil Pal for the week as you learn the basics of digging up dinosaurs and other fossilized creatures! Learn how fossils form and how scientists know what's a fossil and what's not. Get ready to make your own casts as you put the "pal" in "paleontology"!

- Cost: $90 per participant
Grades 2 and 3
These camps are designed for children going into Grades 2 and 3. The camps run from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm.
Forest Friends
Join the OSDC Forest Friends as we try to uncover the mystery of how trees work! Compare and contrast different trees using leaf rubbing, dendrochronology, and see how cones can help predict weather as we unlock the clues to the Forest of Fun!

Sudden Science
Blink and you'll miss these speedy science experiments! Be wowed by dramatic chemical reactions from experiments like Elephant's Toothpaste and the Iodine Clock Reaction, then make Alka-Seltzer lava lamps and more! Keep your eyes peeled: this camp will happen at the speed of science!

- Cost: $28 per participant
Grades 4 to 6
These camps are designed for children going into Grades 4, 5, and 6. The camps run from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm.
Rocketeers
Prepare for liftoff! Campers will launch rockets using chemistry, air pressure, and even rocket engines while learning about the science of rockets and how they power space exploration.

Steampunk Science
Build and create devices that gather energy from the world around us in amazing and unique ways! Learn how the Sun, water, and even the air we breathe is filled with power that we can tap into with the right equipment. Create a solar-powered oven, use the wind to move, and harness the force of water as you become a Steampunk Scientist!

- Cost: $140 per participant

A spot has not been reserved for your child until you have been contacted by the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. Requests will be processed in the order that they are received. Please note that it may take up to one business day to reply to your request.

To register by phone, contact the Centre at 780-743-7167 and leave a message. Email registrations will be processed first, followed by phone registrations. Please note that it may take up to 48 hours to return your phone message. We appreciate your patience.
